Human-Centered Human Resources

Human-Centered Human Resources

Making the world better from the inside out.

You can’t do good work without your people.

No matter how important and noble your mission is, without the employees in your organization, you won’t be successful. But when you treat them with the respect, justice and equity they deserve, they thrive, and your organization does too.

Your people matter. It’s time they felt that. I can help.

My Services

From Employee Relations, Coaching, Policy Updates, HR Audits and Investigations, to Process Development and Training, I can provide best-in-class HR support for your employees, supervisors, and your whole organization, no matter how challenging the situation.

My Approach

I help small and medium sized nonprofits on a mission to change the world do more than just talk the talk. I ask the hard questions and really listen. Because I care deeply about people, I tell the truth, encourage truth-telling and help your organization embody your core values.

My Story

A Certified PHR (Professional in Human Resources) through HRCI with over 20 years of nonprofit experience across the full spectrum of HR and People Operations functions, I’m an HR consultant who’s passionate about DEI and racial justice and experienced in helping organizations decolonize their mindset.

Unapologetically People Centered

My approach toward human resources is emphatically people-centered – no ifs, ands, or buts about it. I’m focused on seeing your employees as humans, not assets….and helping them feel seen that way too. It’s about time, don’t you think?

DEI that goes deeper than a pledge and workshop.

You want to do more than just talk the talk of diversity, equity and inclusion in your organization…

You want to make it a part of your hiring practices. But doing that can be messy, hard work. Believe me, I understand. Yet it is possible, and it is worth it.

67%

of job seekers say diversity is an important factor in deciding where to work.

57%

of employees would have stayed if their workplace had been more equitable and inclusive.

Racial Justice isn’t just a Band-Aid you can put on your organization.

As Dr. Cornel West has said, “Justice is what love looks like in public.” That’s also what it looks like in organizations. It’s impossible for your nonprofit to embody love without justice. And the truth is, if you’re not supporting BiPOC to get hired, promoted & lifted then you’re not really “for racial justice.”

If you’re ready to get serious about examining your organization’s policies, protocols & practices through a racial justice lens, I’m ready to guide you.

HR without the BS. Imagine that.

Transparency, truth-telling, straight talk. That’s what you get when you work with me. Because I believe that’s the kind of communication that works best in any organization. And the kind of communication most of us truly want, right? Because we all know what it’s like to get the corporate doubletalk and to get lied to – even in the name of “kindness.” Honesty is at the heart of what I bring to human resource management because honesty is not only the best policy, it’s also one that builds a healthy culture, keeps current staff wanting to come to work in the morning, good employees from leaving and  makes new hires want to join you.

If you want something different, do something different.

How do I help you manage human resources at your non-profit, differently, in a way that’s better for your employees, your organization, and for your mission in the world? The process often follows three simple steps.

What People Are Saying

Emily White Hodge was a perfect match for our organization as we began the journey toward a 32 hour work week. Her insight, experience, direct communication and care in guiding us through this process all led to her becoming a trusted advisor and partner we continue to utilize beyond our initial project. Emily’s honest approach and coaching on managerial courage have been critical for our team.

While discussing one of our staffing strategies, Emily gently asked me how that was in alignment with our anti-racism stance. She did it in a way that caused me to rethink my original decision…. that will help shape my career.
